ALPHA TO BRING MINING-FOCUSED INSURANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT CAPABILITY TO ELECTRA MINING AFRICA 2026

Johannesburg, South Africa – Mining operations are becoming more complex, yet one equipment failure can halt production across an entire site. Alpha is bringing its expanded Mining Assets All Risks capability to Electra Mining Africa 2026, from 7–11 September at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec, to show how insurers can help mines better understand and manage those risks.

Alpha’s presence will focus on an operational reality that sits behind every mine: production depends on multiple critical assets and systems working together. Extraction, processing, materials handling, power, water and supporting infrastructure are interconnected. When one production-critical asset fails, the consequence can extend beyond the damaged equipment, affecting output, revenue and continuity across the wider operation.

At Electra Mining Africa, Alpha will engage with brokers, clients and industry stakeholders on how Mining Assets All Risks responds to these dependencies. The solution brings Property Damage, Machinery Breakdown and Business Interruption together within a mining-focused framework, supported by specialist underwriting, technical risk assessment, a risk management-focused approach and claims support centred on restoring operational capability.

Alpha assesses each mining risk on its individual merits, including thermal coal operations. This approach recognises that opencast and underground mines cannot be reduced to a standard asset schedule or treated as interchangeable risks. The operating environment, production process, critical infrastructure, protection measures and recovery requirements all influence how risk should be understood and structured.

Alpha offers protection of up to R3.5 billion per location for opencast mining risks and up to R575 million per location for underground mining risks. This capacity is underpinned by more than 22 years supporting large-scale operations.

Visitors to Electra Mining Africa can engage with the Alpha team on the assets, systems and operational dependencies their businesses rely on, as well as the role of insurance, risk management and recovery planning in protecting mining continuity.

MINING DEPENDS ON CONTINUITY. ALPHA HELPS PROTECT IT.
