Bell Graders drive sustainability and energy efficiency
As industries across the globe accelerate their focus on
sustainability, decarbonisation, and environmental innovation, Bell Equipment
has designed its motor grader range with a future-ready platform designed to
support responsible and efficient operations.
According to Bell Product Manager, Jeremiah Mokhomo, the
Bell Motor Grader, like the company’s proven ADT range, has been engineered
with sustainability at its core. “Our entire range is compatible with B20
biodiesel, a blend of 20% renewable diesel and 80% petroleum diesel, as well as
Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), without any modifications to the machine. Both
options are still niche in South Africa, but it is encouraging that some major
industry players are starting to show interest in and piloting renewable diesel.”
He highlights that both B20 biodiesel and HVO are ‘drop-in’
alternatives that are functionally equivalent to conventional diesel, “enabling
customers to reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining productivity and
performance, which is critical in the demanding applications where our machines
work”.
Even without renewable diesel, Jeremiah says that the
introduction of the advanced hydromechanical transmission allows Bell Graders to
operate efficiently at lower engine RPMs, significantly reducing fuel
consumption and lowering emissions without compromising power delivery or
grading performance.
“In emission-regulated markets, the availability of a Stage
5 engine, equipped with a catalytic converter and Diesel Particulate Filter
(DPF), further supports cleaner operations by reducing harmful exhaust
emissions and aligning with global environmental standards,” he adds.
The Bell Motor Grader range consists of three base models,
each available in either a 4WD or 6WD configuration. The G140 is well suited to
all maintenance and light to medium construction tasks. The G160, with its
increased power and performance, is designed to handle heavy construction
applications, while the G200 is designed for bulk earthworks and the mining
industry. In addition, the G140 ECO is the base spec unit for the G140, which
is geared for public sector opportunities, lighter construction or agricultural
applications.
Sustainability and energy efficiency also applies to the manufacturing
process. All Bell Graders are manufactured in the company’s factory in Richards
Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, which harvests rainwater, recycles waste and is equipped
with a 1 MW solar power and inverter system along with energy efficient
lighting, air conditioning and ventilation.
