Caldas Engineering celebrates 30 years of building trust, performance and lasting partnerships
Founded by Rui Caldas in 1996, the proudly South African business began with a clear objective: to provide reliable crusher wear parts and responsive support to operators seeking a trusted alternative in the market. Initially focused largely on exports, Caldas steadily expanded throughout Southern Africa as local customers sought the same service, expertise and product reliability experienced by its international clients.

“No company reaches 30 years without the support of its customers, employees, suppliers and industry partners,” says Michael Da Camara, Chief Operating Officer of Caldas Engineering. “The trust that customers have placed in us over the years is something we never take for granted.”

From wear parts to complete crushing solutions

While crusher wear parts and mechanical spares remain central to the business, Caldas Engineering has continued to develop its offering in response to customers’ changing operational needs.

Today, the company supplies crusher assemblies, process equipment, modular crushing plants and screening solutions, together with a broad range of wear parts and critical spares. Its equipment portfolio includes jaw, impact and granulator crushers designed for demanding mining, quarrying and recycling applications.

“For many years, our role was helping customers keep their equipment running,” says Da Camara. “Increasingly, customers began asking us to help solve broader operational challenges. Expanding into equipment and modular solutions was the natural next step.”

This growth reflects Caldas Engineering’s commitment to understanding the customer’s complete operation. Whether supplying a wear component that provides longer service life, a critical spare that helps prevent unplanned downtime or a modular plant that supports increased production, the objective remains the same: to create measurable value for the customer.

Responding to an evolving industry

The quarrying and aggregates industry of 2026 is significantly different from that of the mid-1990s. Operators now face rising costs, tighter margins, increasing sustainability requirements and greater pressure to maximise plant availability and productivity.

“The industry today looks very different to what it did 30 years ago,” says founder Rui Caldas. “Customers are looking for partners who understand their operations and can contribute to performance improvements, not simply sell a product.”

To meet these expectations, Caldas Engineering has continued to invest in engineering expertise, product development, manufacturing oversight, quality assurance and customer support.

“The greatest classroom we have ever had is the field,” says Caldas. “Every application teaches us something, and the feedback we receive from customers continually helps us improve.”

Quality proven under real operating conditions

Decades of field experience have given Caldas Engineering valuable insight into the performance of equipment and components in demanding operating environments.

The company’s ability to adapt products and solutions to specific site conditions has become one of its core strengths. Because no two crushing operations are identical, Caldas works closely with customers to understand factors such as feed material, production targets, equipment configuration and maintenance requirements.

This practical, application-driven approach helps customers improve reliability, reduce downtime and operate more efficiently.

A milestone built on people

For Caldas Engineering, the 30-year milestone is about more than products, facilities or business growth. It is an opportunity to recognise the customers, employees and partners who have shaped the company over three decades.

“Perhaps the achievement we are most proud of is the number of customers who have remained with us for many years,” says Da Camara. “In an industry built on trust, long-term relationships are one of the greatest measures of success.”

The company also acknowledges the contribution of its employees, many of whom have devoted a significant part of their careers to Caldas Engineering.

“We have been fortunate to have dedicated people who genuinely care about our customers and the business,” he adds. “Their knowledge, commitment and contribution cannot be overstated.”

Building on 30 years of experience

As it looks to the future, Caldas Engineering views its anniversary not as a destination, but as a strong foundation for its next phase of development.

The company plans to continue investing in its people, engineering capabilities, equipment solutions and technologies that help customers improve operational performance.

“Our vision remains simple,” concludes Da Camara. “We want to continue earning the trust of our customers every day.”

After 30 years, Caldas Engineering’s story remains one of people, partnerships and an enduring commitment to helping customers succeed.
