As industrial operations place greater emphasis on productivity, operator safety and precise material handling, lifting equipment must do more than move a load. It must respond intuitively, support faster production and keep operations running reliably.

Available from RGM Cranes, the Gravity Ant electrical manipulator combines high-speed lifting, intelligent controls and integrated monitoring in a compact solution for manufacturing and warehouse environments.

“The Gravity Ant changes the way operators interact with a load,” says Richard Roughley, sales engineer at RGM Cranes. “Its responsive controls and built-in safety features allow materials to be lifted, moved and positioned with greater accuracy, while reducing the physical demands placed on the operator.”

Unlike systems that require adjustment when the load weight changes, the Gravity Ant can handle any load within its rated capacity without additional configuration. It offers lifting speeds of up to 75 metres per minute, helping businesses shorten handling cycles and maintain productivity. Its compact, quiet and portable design also allows it to be repositioned as layouts or handling requirements change.

At the centre of the system is the IBOX control platform, which offers handle control and float mode. In handle control, the operator manages the vertical movement and speed of the hook by moving the control handle. The further the handle is displaced, the faster the lifting or lowering speed, creating a responsive operating experience. An integrated hand-presence sensor confirms that the operator remains in control before movement is permitted.

Float mode allows the operator to guide the suspended load directly by touching and moving it. The system compensates for the load’s weight, creating a near-weightless handling experience that supports accurate positioning, assembly and repetitive production tasks.

Additional safety features include immediate stopping in the event of an emergency stop, power failure or electrical surge. Adjustable lifting speeds, virtual travel limits and slowdown zones can also be configured through the optional external display.

The Gravity Ant’s connected monitoring capabilities provide access to operating hours, lifted weight, daily runtime and maintenance intervals. This helps maintenance teams plan servicing and assess equipment use before issues affect production. If scheduled maintenance is not completed, the system can gradually reduce operating speed to encourage timely servicing and protect the equipment.

“Our technology offering reflects the growing role of intelligent equipment in modern industry,” says Roughley. “The Gravity Ant combines dependable lifting performance with safety, usability and meaningful operational data.”

By bringing together rapid lifting, intuitive control, integrated safety and remote monitoring, the Gravity Ant offers African industry a more efficient and intelligent approach to load handling.
