Electro Diesel Group’s story dates back six decades, with our foundation in 1959 by Mr. CC Steyn. The company, initially a family venture, was established in Marikana, an agricultural district in Rustenburg. As Rustenburg transitioned from a rural landscape into North-West Province’s most rapidly expanding city, Electro Diesel Group paralleled this transformation, evolving from a small independent venture into a formally registered private company.
With Mr. Steyn’s decision to step back from direct business involvement, the reins were handed over to Mr. Jaap Kroon.
In 2006, a notable milestone was achieved when our Director, Mr. Christo Kroon, expanded the company and founded the Steelpoort branch. The group’s overall capabilities were strengthened when Mr. Bino Etsebeth, an individual with extensive experience in mining and business, joined us as a Director in 2009, thus contributing significantly to our group’s expertise.
To meet the escalating demand for high-quality parts and services in the swiftly expanding mining sector, the Electro Diesel Group extended its operations by opening a new branch in Kathu, Northern Cape, in 2014. Building on this expansion, we ventured into Phalaborwa, Limpopo, in 2018.
Our journey in Phalaborwa was strengthened with the induction of Adv. T.R. Malatji, who brought valuable contributions, securing a 51% ownership stake in EDG Phalaborwa (PTY) Ltd. Concurrently, Mrs. MT Nkuna joined our team in the Limpopo branches (Steelpoort, Driekop, Tweefontein, and Nkangala). As a majority stakeholder with 51% ownership, she is instrumental in our local franchise project aimed at empowering the local community.
In a similar way, Mr. M.F Saidoo partnered with our North West branches (Rustenburg, Mooinooi, Brits, and Northam) in February 2022. His collaboration led to the creation of new franchise companies, including EDG Rand (Gauteng), where he retains 51% ownership, further propelling our local franchise project initiatives and extending our footprint in South Africa even further.
