From Influence to Impact: Shaping the Future of Women in Mining
WiMSA Workshop

The WiMSA (Women in Mining South Africa) workshop at Electra Mining Africa will bring together women from across the mining sector for a dynamic half-day event focused on leadership, influence, innovation and meaningful industry transformation.

Designed to empower and inspire, the workshop will provide a platform for women to connect with peers, learn from industry leaders and explore practical strategies for advancing their impact across the mining value chain.

The programme will open with an introduction from Mogaleadi Seabela, WiMSA President, setting the stage for a day of insightful discussions and thought leadership. Attendees will gain valuable perspectives through a range of presentations that explore some of the industry's most pressing opportunities and challenges.

Highlights include a panel discussion on Strategic Alliances Between Industry, Government and Women Entrepreneurs, moderated by Palesa Maloka, Executive Search Consultant – Global Mining, examining how partnerships can unlock greater opportunities for women-owned businesses and professionals in the sector.

A presentation by Jyoti Mahadew, Operations & Supply Chain Executive at Valterra, will focus on From Inclusion to Impact: Converting Participation into Performance and Value in Mining, highlighting how organisations can translate diversity initiatives into measurable business outcomes.

Addressing leadership in challenging operating environments, Dr Vanessa Govender, Global CPM PMO Lead, will present Safety, Risk and Resilience: Strengthening Technical Leadership in High-Risk Environments, while Lisl Pullinger, Sustainability Strategist, will unpack Inclusive economic participation for women in mining communities exploring pathways to greater economic inclusion and shared value creation.

The workshop will conclude with a thought-provoking panel discussion, From Seat at the Table to Voice in the Room, moderated by Noleen Pauls, WiMSA Chairperson, focusing on how women can strengthen their influence, leadership presence and contribution to organisational decision-making.

More than just a workshop, the event is designed to create meaningful connections, encourage knowledge-sharing and inspire action. It aims to equip women with valuable insights, practical tools and the confidence to take the next step in their careers while helping to shape a more inclusive, innovative and resilient future for mining.

The WiMSA Workshop will take place in the Strelitzia Centre (previously called Bateleur), from 08:00 to 13:00 on 10 September. Attendance is free for visitors attending Electra Mining Africa 2026, but booking is required.
