Killian de Jonge
Qualifications: B.eng chemical engineering with specialisation in mineral processing
Kilian de Jonge is an engineering and commercial leader with experience in mineral processing, metallurgy, plant operations and business development within the mining industry.
He holds a BEng in Chemical Engineering, specialising in Mineral Processing. He began his career in process engineering, working on equipment selection, plant optimisation, commissioning and process design.
Kilian later moved into operational management, where he led beneficiation plant operations and multidisciplinary teams responsible for production, safety, maintenance and continuous improvement. During this period, he held several legal appointments under South Africa’s Mine Health and Safety Act.
He then progressed into technical leadership, supporting multiple processing operations through plant audits, metallurgical support, commissioning and process optimisation.
Today, Kilian is Head of Sales for the EMEA region at Pump & Abrasion Technologies. Drawing on his technical and operational background, he works closely with mining and mineral-processing operations to understand their challenges and identify practical engineering solutions that improve equipment performance, reliability and operating efficiency.
His current responsibilities include strategic planning, business development, team leadership and the development of long-term customer partnerships across diverse international markets. Having worked in engineering, plant operations, metallurgy and commercial leadership, Kilian operates at the intersection of technical expertise and business strategy. He believes that the best outcomes are achieved through collaboration, practical problem-solving and a clear understanding of the customer’s operational requirements.
At the SAIMM ESG presentation, Kilian will present “Responsible Pump Selection as a Practical Driver of Sustainable Mining,” focusing on how pump selection and system design can influence energy use, water consumption, maintenance, wear life and plant availability.
