Kondwani Banda
Qualifications: MSc. Metallurgical Engineering
Kondwani Banda is a Professional Engineer and Project Development Manager with more than a decade of experience spanning the energy, mining, metallurgical, consulting, and research sectors.
He currently serves as Project Development Manager at Bio2Watt Energy Holdings, where he leads the development of large-scale anaerobic digestion and biomethane projects across Southern Africa. His work focuses on renewable energy development, biomethane production, bio-CO₂ utilisation, commercial structuring, stakeholder engagement, and project delivery.
Prior to joining Bio2Watt, Kondwani held project management and business improvement roles at Hatch and OIM Consulting, where he managed multidisciplinary projects and operational excellence initiatives across the mining and minerals industry. He also spent several years at Mintek, contributing to metallurgical research, pilot plant campaigns, pyrometallurgical process development, and industry-funded innovation programmes.
Beyond his professional career, he is actively involved in advancing the engineering profession through SAIMM, ECSA, and continental engineering initiatives. As Chairperson of the SAIMM CPD Committee, he has led the development of SAIMM's professional development framework and initiatives aimed at supporting professional registration, mentorship, and lifelong learning. He also serves on the FAEO External Relations Committee, helping strengthen collaboration between engineering institutions across Africa.
His passion lies in developing people, strengthening the profession, and creating pathways that enable engineers and metallurgists to thrive throughout their careers.
